At Vitamyna, we believe in leading by example when it comes to living a healthy life. That’s why we sat down with Susan Malzoni, founder of Vitamyna, and Harry Glen, a dear friend and trusted medical adviser, to learn about their daily wellness routines, secrets to staying youthful, and insights on health trends.

Full Interview Here

Susan Malzoni (SM): So nice to have you here, Harry. You’ve been such an inspiration with your healthy lifestyle, and we’re thrilled to hear more about your routines and tips. How do you maintain such a balanced life?

Harry Glen (HG): Thanks for having me, Susan. I’ve always believed in practicing what I preach. Whether I’m advising friends, family, or patients, I try to lead by example. My goal is to live what I recommend so I can be the best example for others.

Starting the Day Right

A typical day for Harry begins at 8 AM, followed by a refreshing swim to kickstart his body and mind. Swimming, especially in cold water, is a part of his morning ritual, serving as a "cold plunge" to wake up his senses and build resilience. For those of us who aren’t into swimming, Harry also incorporates "exercise snacks" into his day. This term, recently coined, refers to quick, high-intensity bursts of exercise lasting just 2-3 minutes. Whether it’s jumping jacks or burpees, these exercises help elevate his heart rate and keep his energy levels high.

SM: It sounds like your day is filled with activity! What else do you do after your swim?

HG: After my swim, I wait until at least 12 hours have passed since my last meal. I follow intermittent fasting and usually have my first meal, which is more like lunch, around noon. I also take vitamins, which I consider an essential part of my health routine.

Functional Movement & Exercise Snacks

One of Harry’s favorite health hacks is integrating high-intensity movements into his day, which he calls "exercise snacks." It’s about doing quick bursts of activity like squats or jumping jacks to get the heart pumping. For those new to fitness, Harry recommends starting with functional exercises that combine both aerobic and anaerobic movements. "Muscle mass is a key indicator of longevity," Harry says, "and adding weights to simple exercises can enhance overall health as we age."

SM: What would you suggest for someone who’s not in the best shape and wants to get started?

HG: I’d recommend focusing on functional exercises that combine aerobic and anaerobic activities. Start with jumping jacks or squats, but add weights. It’s a great way to build muscle, which is crucial for longevity.

Cryotherapy and Red Light Therapy

In addition to his daily routine, Harry swears by cryotherapy and red light therapy, which he incorporates once a week. These therapies help reduce inflammation and improve sleep quality, two critical factors for maintaining overall wellness.

SM: I’ve heard amazing things about red light therapy. How does it work for you?

HG: It helps thaw me out after a cryotherapy session, where I stay in the chamber for about three minutes. The red light speeds up my recovery and energizes my body by activating the mitochondria in my cells.

Diet and Water: The Building Blocks of Health

Harry follows a Mediterranean diet for overall health and suggests a ketogenic diet for those looking to lose weight. He emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated, but warns against drinking water from plastic bottles due to the risks of microplastics.

SM: So what’s your take on the best types of water to drink?

HG: I stick to filtered water, ideally through reverse osmosis. I avoid plastic bottles because of the endocrine-disrupting microplastics they contain.

The Power of Social Connections

Besides physical health, Harry stresses the importance of a good social network. "Surrounding yourself with positive people can improve your mental health and longevity," he explains. Emotional well-being and mental stimulation are just as important as exercise and diet in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Final Health Tips

As we wrapped up the interview, Harry shared some parting advice:

HG: Supplements play an essential role in staying healthy, but they’re not enough on their own. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, good sleep, and a strong social network are equally important.

SM: Thank you so much for sharing your incredible insights with us, Harry! Your dedication to living a healthy life is inspiring, and we’re grateful to have you as part of the Vitamyna family.

Takeaway:

Incorporating small but powerful habits—like swimming, exercise snacks, intermittent fasting, cryotherapy, and maintaining a good social circle—can drastically improve your overall health. Remember, prevention is key. Don’t wait until illness strikes to take control of your well-being.
